getting to the root cause

Welcome

Acknowledgement & Gratitude

I wish to acknowledge our ancestors who passed before us, as well as the teachers who continue to share knowledge and wisdom.  I consider myself part of an intellectual and spiritual tradition that emphasizes our common humanity,  inspires care for the earth, and service to others.

Life’s journey has taken me to many places deep within my heart & soul, and across three continents to where I find myself currently situated with deep gratitude: living and working on the traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations, otherwise referred to as the Greater Vancouver region in beautiful British Columbia, Canada.

About Me

I have a curious mind and am passionate about learning; I bring this curiosity and passion into my work as a wellness practitioner.  I was inspired to become a Registered Massage Therapist in order to better understand the transformative changes I experienced while receiving treatment myself over five years from a highly esteemed therapist.  Knowing the body/mind’s remarkable capacity to rehabilitate, I look forward to working with you to explore the possibilities you can achieve.

I completed my diploma at the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy in Vernon, BC in August 2014.  The program consisted of two internships, during which I was extremely fortunate to receive mentorship from three respectable practitioners:
- Natale Rao – known around the province as the go-to authority and primary instructor of Myofascial Therapy
- Katherine Reiber – Registered CranioSacral Therapist and owner at Tidal Elements Healing Arts Studio in Vernon, BC
- Gayle Heinrich – seasoned massage therapist with a practice in Enderby, BC; also enrolled in further education to become an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner

Along with sharing their individual strengths and wisdom, each mentor also instilled a deeper appreciation for how the body/mind functions, and a passion to continue learning – aspects that I integrate into my own practice to this day.  In keeping with this intention, since graduating, I completed courses in CranioSacral Therapy and SomatoEmotional Release through The Upledger Institute.

Prior to entering massage therapy, I worked professionally as an adolescent educator and mentor with Vancouver-based Environmental Youth Alliance, and later with a national faith-based educational institution.  Both experiences developed my capacity to be of service and understand others better through compassion and deep listening.  Much earlier I also spent one year managing the local branch of a multinational truck rental company, and another year as plant manager at a snack food company.  Both these experiences helped build character and develop people skills, while reminding me what I didn’t want to do with my career!  Other notable experiences include extensive training and volunteering at a Crisis Phone Line, and recent certification in Mental Health First Aid.

Inspiration

My brief physical existence on this planet has thus far provided profound experiences to integrate knowledge and teachings from broad fields of study that continue to enrich my understanding of the human condition.

Our time here individually and as a species is but a speck on a giant canvas painted with every imaginable hue of every imaginable colour, by the variety of life that forms the complex matrix of this planet on which we are suspended in space.

Of critical importance to our existence, and indeed to our survival, is being in relationship; we emerge as a result of relationships between and within millions of cells that cooperate and coordinate to give us physical form.  We are in constant relationship with oxygen, carbon dioxide and other elements for daily survival.  We are part of families, communities and other extended social networks that shape and influence us, and that we also have the capacity to shape and influence – be they constructive or harmful.

Should you choose to work with me, I will harness all resources available to support you through your journey as you navigate your relationships towards wholeness and health.
